It's been 50 years since a very young Peter Brock showed his amazing talent in man-handling the little LJ GTR XU-1 Torana to victory in the wet at the 1972 Hardie Ferodo 500. Its a very different race today than 50 years ago. The modern cars certainly monster the cars from the 60s, 70s and 80s. But the passion for racing that we as Aussies shared in Brockie's era is still there. That rivalry between Ford and Holden. Sadly today we will say goodbye to the Holden Commodore as a race car. But next year the rivalry will continue between the Mustang and the Camaro. And the young driver's of today and tomorrow will continue to be inspired by those great racers of the past. Long live Australian motor sport.
