For sale is a completely original VL Commodore SL in Madeira with Sandalwood trim running the matching numbers 3 litre 6 cylinder engine and 5 speed manual gearbox. This Commodore is in immaculate rust and damage free condition. A real time warp example. Step inside and you're transported Back to the Future! For sale from Brisbane, QLD.

The VL Commodore was a substantial makeover of the VK, and would be the last of the mid-size Commodores. The designers softened the lines for the VL, rounding off the panels and introducing a small tail spoiler built into the boot lid. Holden also implemented rectangular headlamps as opposed to the square shaped ones fitted to earlier models. For the top-of-the-range Calais model, the design incorporated the use of semi-retracting headlight covers, the first for a production Holden. This had been previously attempted on the never released Torana GTR-X which featured fully retractable headlights.

Major changes were made to the dashboard with new instruments, touch switches mounted either side controlling wipers, rear window demister, electric antenna (Berlina/Calais), and the headlight switch moved from the right-hand dash side to the indicator stalk. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning control graphics changed slightly, the centre console offered more storage with a new transmission shifter and surround.

Finding a totally unmolested original VL Commodore SL nowadays is becoming more difficult and one in this condition and colour combo is a rarity.

Basically an entry level Commodore in 1986, this SL is powered by Nissan’s robust 3.0-litre in-line six with the 5 speed manual gearbox. The VL has covered a genuine 140,668 km from new and presents in exceptional condition throughout.

The Commodore features all original factory paint and is rust and damage free. The interior is all original including the factory fitted radio/cassette player and all instruments, gauges, lights and controls work as they should.

The suspension has been replaced several years ago with Koni shocks. Riding on VE SS wheels with near new Pirelli Dragon tyres. The Commodore also comes with a set of original pursuit wheels and tyres and early Commodore hubcaps.

Open the boot and there is the original boot carpet and a spare wheel. The Commodore is supplied with two sets of keys.

Take this Commodore for a run and you'll soon see the benefits of 3.0 litres of overhead-cam grunt.

This presents a great opportunity to enjoy the Commodore as is, build a Turbo version from a superb base car or create your dream Commodore.
