Fully restored '77 CL Sports Pack Panel Van, 318 V8 with 4 speed manual, immaculate condition. Located in Perth, WA for your inspection. The model range of the CL was certainly nowhere near the heady days of the VH series, when 56 different model variants were available. In fact, there had been a continued rationalisation of the model line up, and with the CL Series only seven models were available. Even the Charger had fallen from favour, with sales once accounting for over 50% of Valiant sales, down to just over 8%. The development then of an entirely new model seemed at odds with the conservative approach being taken by Chrysler. Nevertheless, the company embarked on a research and development plan for the production of a panel van. In the 1970s, panel vans had become increasingly popular for both trade and recreational use. In fact, panel van sales had reached a staggering 18.5% of the total commercial vehicle market share. For the youth market, Chrysler released the “Sports Pack” and “Drifter Pack”, both designed to take on the likes of the Holden Sandman and Ford Surferoo. The sports pack came fitted with the Charger grille, quartz halogen high beam headlights and a three-spoke sports steering wheel. The Drifter was released a few weeks after the sports pack, and became an overnight cult classic. With the CL, Chrysler introduced Radial Tuned Suspension which received critical acclaim from motoring journalists of the day as well as the introduction of “ELB”, Chryslers new Electronic Lean Burn system. At first available on the 5.2 litre 318 V8, the computer controlled engine management system afforded the big V8 fuel savings in the magnitude of 15%. This system comprised an analog spark control computer located in the engine compartment and a new, more efficient carburettor. Devised by Chrysler Corporation in the US, ELB was claimed to incorporate technology developed during the Corporations participation in the US space program. FOR SALE is a super rare absolutely stunning Crystal Turquoise Metallic / Dark Saddle 1977 Valiant CL Sports Pack Panel van. This is a One of One build and features the much sought-after factory 318 V8 and 4 speed manual gearbox with the 2.92 ratio diff. All running gear has been fully rebuilt, blue printed and balanced. And the Panel van has all new suspension, brakes and all new rubbers and seals. Amazingly, the Dark Saddle interior is all original and the owner has had the dash gauges rebuilt and recalibrated. Owned by the current custodian for over 10 years, the Valiant is believed to have had only one prior owner. The car comes with a Valiant Infobase verification certificate and the car has covered a genuine 2,953 kilometres since the restoration was completed.
