1976 Ford LTD P5 ... (SOLD)

For sale from Perth, WA is one of the last of the original Aussie designed and built P5 Ford LTDs. When the first locally designed and built Ford LTD (meaning Lincoln Type Design) codenamed P5 was released in August 1973, it allowed Ford to further tighten its grip on the local long wheelbase luxury car segment.

The Fairlane was still outselling Holden’s Statesman and Chrysler’s Chrysler by Chrysler and the LTD only added more pressure to Ford’s rivals.

The new P5 LTD, replaced the locally assembled American Galaxie, which was not contributing enough money to Ford’s bottom line.

The list price of the P5 LTD in 1973 was a hefty $7,750, which meant that only CEOs and taxpayer funded politicians got to travel in them.

And what a car they got!

The LTD boasted a massive 121 inch wheelbase, squared-off rear mudguards, concealed headlights, with a padded vinyl roof — to cover the welding seams on the extended roof.

There was a limo-styled smaller rear window, whitewall radial tyres, power steering, air conditioning, power windows, and an AM/FM stereo/cassette player — not to mention cut-pile carpeting and walnut grained dashboard inlay.

Power came from a 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8, with an automatic transmission and four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes — an Australian first.

For sale is a stunning example of the P5 LTD. This well presented and maintained three owner example was been resprayed about 10 years ago in Emerald Fire from the original Polar White and the vinyl roof has been replaced with the correct black NOS textured vinyl. The interior is the original Parchment leather with a retrim to the front seats and new carpets fitted including the replacement of the carpets on the door cards and console. Everything works including the Air Conditioning, dash gauges and even the clock. A bluetooth radio with hands free has replaced the factory stereo.

Mechanically the LTD runs perfectly with smooth power from the matching numbers 2V 351 Cleveland, bullet proof FMX auto and 9" LSD. The carby was fully rebuilt and a new exhaust system fitted approximately 4 years ago.

Slip behind the wheel and the LTD cocoons you in 70s glamour. This is a great cruiser. A relaxing drive and a super reliable cruiser.

Riding on American Racing Wheels with excellent tyres and those wonderful original LTD styled wheel covers come with the car. And in the boot is a new carpet, 15" steel spare wheel and original jack bag.
