1976 Chrysler CL Valiant Regal SE - Topaz Gold Metallic ... (SOLD)

In 1976, the flagship of the Valiant range was now the Valiant CL Regal SE. The Regal SE came standard with the 5.2 litre 318 V8, power steering, air-conditioning, automatic transmission and a higher equipment level than any other Chrysler or Valiant. For sale from Sunshine Coast, QLD is a restored Topaz Gold example of this top tier Valiant.

Back in 1976, the base CL Valiant was priced at $6309, the Charger 770 at $6948, while the flagship Regal SE came in at a massive $11,401. Luxury appointments included power windows, a roof console (with front map reading lights), retractable front and rear seat belts and fully carpeted boot. On the inside, the Regal SE came fitted with a sumptuous cloth interior as standard, or for the first time in a Valiant you could factory option leather. Other features included, overriders on the front and rear bumpers, quartz halogen high beam headlights, colour-coded wheel covers and coach lines on the body sides. A vinyl roof was standard, as was a lockable fuel-filler cap with SE ornament. The dash was finished in a fake walnut wood-grain, the instrument cluster incorporating a quartz clock, trip odometer and ignition key delay light.

A total of 32,672 CL Valiant’s were manufactured, and during its production run Chrysler Australia celebrated its 25th birthday, while the 500,000th Australian made Valiant also rolled off the production line – this particular car being presented by then South Australian Premier Don Dunstan to the Adelaide Children’s Hospital.

For sale is a very nicely sorted Topaz Gold Metallic Regal SE. Running the matching numbers Fireball 318 V8 engine stroked to 360 cui mated to the trusty 904 Torqueflite auto with Stage 2 shift kit and 2500 stall convertor serviced by Campbelltown Automatics and through to a 2.92 highway ratio diff.

Rebuilt less than 4,000 Klms ago, the original engine features a Scat 9,000 360 crank, new rods, pistons, rings and bearings with a Cam Tech cam. Street Dominator intake manifold, Holley 650 Vac sec 4BBL carby, ceramic coated exhaust, with 2 1/2" heat shield wrapped exhaust, MSD ignition, high volume oil pump and 100amp alternator, new water pump, 4 core radiator, Holley Red Fuel Pump and new battery. All suspension has been re bushed with new ball joints, tie rods and drag links. A heavy duty sway bar has been added and the power steering reconditioned. Braking has also been sorted with front rotors machined and new shoes fitted. Rear brakes also have new shoes and Gabriel Red Rider gas shocks fitted.

The car has been repainted in the original Topaz Gold with two coats of ceramic coating applied. The original Parchment vinyl roof has not been refitted. The car is rust and damage free and presents in excellent condition for a maintained car. On the inside, the CL Regal SE is pretty original and features a fully serviced Air Conditioning system with a new compressor, dry receiver and belts. The trim, door cards, dash and gauges are all original and the power windows are all fully operational. The Regal is fitted with an after market steering wheel, cruise control, Monster Tacho, Blue Tooth system, immobiliser and American Boss head unit, amp and remote speaker system. An original rear venetian blind is also supplied.

Showing a genuine 175,131 Klms from new, the Regal SE comes with a Valiant Info Base verification letter confirming the original engine number as still fitted, the options fitted , the selling dealer being Deloraine Chrysler in Mayfield, NSW and the original number plate being JAZ-174.

The car is riding on 14x7" R.O.H style alloy mags with excellent white walled tyres.

This is a solid cruiser for the Valiant enthusiast. A matching numbers well maintained example of what was one of Chryslers most luxurious Valiants. Nothing to spend just enjoy this wonderful Valiant CL Regal SE swan song.
