1973 Ford Landau Coupe

$SOLD

This must have been an incredible time to be a Ford engineer. Perhaps a little less constrained by the bean counters, the Ford engineers morphed an XA Falcon GT Hardtop into the unique Ford Landau Coupe. Packing full GT running gear with a 351 Cleveland under the stylish hood, FMX T-Bar automatic and 9" LSD this luxo Falcon GT was beefed up with LTD DNA including its disappearing head lamps and the full width tail lamps, GT-spec drive-line, four-wheel disc brakes and super-plush interior that included aircraft-style levers for the air conditioning and bucket seats all ’round.

The King of two door Australian made luxury cars, only 1385 Landau Coupes were produced in the four years from 1973 to 1976. One of the first to come off the production line in 1973, this Stratosphere Grey Landau has led a charmed life covering an indicated 67,475 Klms in its sheltered life time. Originally sold to a Mrs. S.W. Bott of Pearcedale, VIC through Cooper Ford on the Nepean Highway, Mornington, the car comes with its Log books, original keys and an extensive digital photo file documenting the paint restoration completed in 2016.

This car drives like a luxury limo packaged into a sporty hardtop body with every luxury at your fingertips. It is an unhurried ride. Relaxing , even soothing yet there is plenty of power under your right foot with only a hint of the exhaust burble elegantly muffled by this graceful coupe. The original matching numbers 351 2V Cleveland purrs and the FMX auto shifts smoothly. The factory working A/C, P/S, P/W, electric boot release and aerial are all in perfect working condition. Only the clock seems to have stopped - perhaps encouraging you to step back into a less hurried time. The car presents in 10/10 condition with no damage and no blemishes. The interior is similarly perfect, with the condition of the all original seats, dash, steering wheel, carpets and hood lining confirming the low miles and easy life this car has led.

Riding on new white walled tyres with those impressive hub caps, this car is really quite a delight to drive and is a very capable and comfortable luxury cruiser. It really underscores how good the Ford product was in the 1970s and just how well suited to the Australian conditions it still is nearly 50 years after it rolled down the assembly line.
