Super rare 1971 XY Falcon 500 in Nugget Gold with Black trim running the all matching numbers K code 351 4V Cleveland, 4 speed top loader, 9" diff and factory dual exhaust combo. For sale from Canberra, ACT.

In order to achieve lower insurance premiums, many new car buyers in the 1970s opted for a heavily optioned Falcon or Fairmont to avoid the much higher insurance premiums for a GT or GTHO. The original owner of this Falcon 500 opted for the GT running gear but without the GT name. The option box was ticked for the 351 Cleveland V8, 4 speed Top Loader gearbox and 9" LSD. Sports console, carpets, bucket seats and the dual exhaust system were also selected. As the Falcon was a very late build XY it seems some of the now no longer required HO parts ended up with this car. Like a close ratio 31 spline Bull Nose Top Loader gearbox and 4V heads. So yes, this really is a GT in sheep's clothing.

Having spent most of its life in the Canberra area the Falcon features a beautiful rust and damage free dead straight body. With only an external repaint in acrylic approximately 30 years ago, the XY still presents in excellent condition. The interior is mostly original with original door cards, arm rests, carpets, crash pad, rear seat and hoodlining. Only the front two seats have been retrimmed and the original Falcon dash and steering wheel have been upgraded with the addition of a GS/GT dash, full instrumentation, 8,000 tacho and 140 MPH speedo plus a rim blow original GT steering wheel.

The engine bay is unrestored with signs of the usual 70's era battery explosion and the XY runs a Holley carby and a Bosch Scorcher electronic distributor. The original fan shroud is still in place and the compliance plate has never been removed from the car.

The XY is showing 52,923 miles and comes with some receipts and a Ford Verification letter.

Mechanically the car has been fully serviced and runs and drives perfectly. A new 11" clutch and flywheel have been fitted, the cooling system has been reconditioned, new rear wheel cylinders and brake shoes have been fitted and new springs, shocks and leaf springs have been fitted.

Open the boot and the original boot matt is still in place with a spare wheel and factory tools. Riding on widened ROH 7" 5 Slot rims with original GT dress rims and caps in excellent condition.

A true survivor, that has managed to remain in mostly original condition over the last 50 years rather than becoming another GT clone. A rare and desirable XY Falcon featuring the sought after combo of 351 V8 Cleveland and 4 speed manual gearbox. Don't this rare opportunity.
