1968 was an interesting year for the Ford Mustang. Car enthusiasts will remember the infamous Highland Green GT 390 Fastback, which was made popular by the movie Bullit, featuring Steve McQueen. McQueen drove the 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback and chased a Dodge Charger down the streets of San Francisco. The movie showcased the capabilities of the car and helped develop the iconic status of the Mustang.
Imported to Australia in 2006, this fully restored 1968 Ford Mustang features a 351 Windsor engine with Hooker headers, dyno tuned Holley carby with electric choke, new fuel tank, sender unit and fuel lines, a Holley high flow fuel pump all beautifully presented in a fully detailed engine bay with Billet Specialty Valve covers, Ford Racing intake manifold, MSD Master Blaster 2 coil and Ringbrother fender bolts and washers. The C4 auto has been serviced and a B&M Z Gate shifter fitted. The current owner has just fully serviced the 351 with machined heads and new gaskets throughout.
The Mustang has been fully rewired with an American Autowire kit with new ignition barrel, headlight switch, dimmer switch and has additional power for EFI and other add ons if required. The interior has been retrimmed in standard Mustang black trim with all new foam for the seat cushions, new door cards with new window winders and internal door handles. The dash is mostly original with all working gauges and a wooden Mustang steering wheel.
The Mustang was re-painted in 2020 in Onyx Black with the addition of a white vinyl roof. All exterior chrome is new except for the bumper bars and the Black paint is set off nicely by the new 15" American Racing Wheels and 215/60R15 BF Goodrich tyres. Braking is via Wilwood 4 piston front brakes with braided lines and a Wilwood Master cylinder with standard drums on the rear.
The Mustang is riding on Calvert shocks front and rear with a 9 way adjustable setup for the rear.
