1978 XC Fairmont GXL 351 V8
Sadly the all conquering GT badge had been shelved by Ford with the XB model range but the Fairmont GXL in the XC model came closest in spirit to the older GT Falcons. The stripes and spoilers were gone but the Grand Tourer qualities of the GT Falcon lived on in the Fairmont GXL. This was a very comfortable and pretty rapid executive long distance tourer.
For sale is this very attractive and amazingly rare Desert Gold XC Fairmont GXL. Powered by the optional 351-cid V8, this Ford Executive ordered GXL is factory fitted with power discs front and rear brakes, FMX T-bar automatic transmission and a 9-inch diff plus the signature GS bonnet with air scoops and additional chrome moldings. Inside the upmarket appointments include the GS dash and steering wheel, power windows front and rear, cloth trim, air conditioning and a radio/tape deck (Pioneer CD/radio fitted) while alloy wheels (spare only) and special Ford oval badging complete the package.
The large rectangular headlamps standard on the Fairmonts are supplied along with the genuine grill but the current owner has fitted the sportier looking Falcon GS style lights and grill. Interestingly, the later '78 XC 'update' models were the first Australian manufactured car to use Ford's new blue oval badge, on the boot and grill.
Mechanically the car is running the all original matching numbers 351 V8 Cleveland and the engine has been rebuilt for unleaded. The motor has a new Holley 600 4BBL carby, extractors and a mild cam with a winged Phase 4 sump. The transmission and diff have been serviced with new oils, filters and gaskets. The braking system has also been reconditioned with new master cylinder and fluids.
The interior is in excellent original condition with no burn marks and barely any wear to the seats as the car had been fitted with sheep skin covers from new (covers included with sale). All gauges work, as does the A/C and power windows. The car has covered a genuine 206,478 Klms from new.
The current owner repainted the car in 2 pack in 2019 from a very solid body with minimal rust. The repaint included removal of the brown vinyl roof and the addition of a new black vinyl roof. The GXL retains its original set of 5 alloys wheels, the fully carpeted boot with the original alloy spare and jack bag and tools.

Vehicles offered for sale through AMCS are the responsibility of the Owner / Seller. AMCS acts as the Seller's agent and relies fully on the information provided by the Seller of the vehicle in the advertising and sale of each vehicle. AMCS takes no responsibility for the accuracy or veracity of the information provided by the Seller.
When a Buyer wishes to speak to the owner or inspect a vehicle listed for sale on the AMCS web site, AMCS will request a copy of the potential buyers driver's license or a business card along with an email address and phone number. This is provided to the seller as confirmation of the legitimacy of the buyer and the seller is then asked to contact the potential buyer to discuss the car and set up an inspection if required.
The Buyer must make his own enquiries and inspections regarding the condition, authenticity and veracity of the vehicle and any statements made by the Seller, and satisfy themselves in all aspects prior to purchasing the car from the Seller. The Buyer understands there is no warranty or guarantee offered by either the Seller or AMCS.
If upon inspection the Buyer is not satisfied with the car for any reason and does not wish to proceed with the purchase the owner is advised and any personal details are deleted from AMCS records.
If the Buyer is satisfied with the car and a price is agreed to with the Seller a formal tax invoice is prepared by AMCS and sent to the Buyer for payment to the AMCS audited Trust Account. AMCS also receives a formal Bill of Sale from the owner stating the car is free of encumbrance and noting banking details for the transaction. Once AMCS receives the total payment cleared into its trust account a transfer is then made to the Seller.
AMCS receives a fee of 7.5% (incl. GST) of the sale price for assisting the Seller to sell the vehicle. There is no fee or Buyer's premium charged to the Buyer.
