For sale is a stunning and rarely seen in Australia 1957 Ford Thunderbird Convertible. Running the 245 bhp D-Code 312 cu. in. OHV V-8 engine with a single four-barrel carburetor, two-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission, independent wishbone front suspension, live rear axle, and four-wheel hydraulic brakes. Originally owned by the famous Oscar nominated American actor Anthony Perkins (See gallery photos), makes this a very rare and sought after classic American muscle car. For sale from our Sydney Showroom.

The Ford Thunderbird captured the hearts of America. It was considered by many as it was the car to own and be seen in.  There was only one model Thunderbird, a two-seat convertible coupe, with the only option as a body style was to order the fiberglass top to enclose it for inclement weather.

For 1957 the front bumper was reshaped, the grille and tailfins were made larger, and larger tail-lights were fitted. The spare wheel moved back inside the trunk, which had been redesigned to allow it to be mounted vertically. The side "Thunderbird" script moved from the fins to the front fenders. A new option was "Dial-o-Matic" 4-way power seats that, when you turned off the ignition, the seat would move back to allow easier exiting. As well as the standard 292 and 312 engines, versions of the 312 were produced in higher states of tune, and even a few McCulloch supercharged versions, rated at 300 and 340hp (254 kW) respectively.

All of these beautiful classics come with a past but not many have the history of this one. It was originally bought and owned for many years by iconic actor Anthony Perkins, star of the cult movie "Psycho". Perkins owned this car from 1957 originally buying it in New York then moving to Los Angeles. He held onto this car from 1957-1981 before selling it to the second owner in 2005 (Documented on Line).  As a good friend of Hugh Hefner, this Thunderbird spent many a night and day at the Playboy Mansion.

This 1957 Thunderbird resided with the current owner while he worked in California. When he returned to Australia in 2008, he brought the T-Bird with him to Sydney. It is finished in its correct exterior color of Starmist Blue with a two-tone Black and Cream trim (Originally the trim was two tone Blue and White) and features a porthole hardtop, a white convertible soft-top, a Town & Country AM radio (Supplied but not installed), and the two-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission. Anthony Perkins had the T-Bird repainted and retrimmed in the late 1970s. The odometer now shows 18,811 miles.

Adding to its rarity, this car comes with several high end options. It has both a soft-top and hard-top, 4 way electric seat and electric windows and power steering. Very few vehicles have all of these options.

Recent maintenance includes all new drum brakes front and rear, brand new power brake booster, new exhaust & muffler system and complete service.

The chance to own a classic of this calibre is a once in a lifetime opportunity.
