1978 Ford XC Fairmont GS Rally Pack 351 Station Wagon - Pine & Lime Survivor
Super rare 1978 XC Fairmont GS Station Wagon in factory Pine 'N Lime and heavily optioned with the T-code 351 V8 engine, T-Bar FMX automatic, GS Rallye Pack, Air Conditioning, power steering, power windows, power tail gate, Trad Sunroof, Cassette stereo, dual sports mirrors and 9" LSD. For sale from Newcastle, NSW.
When was the last time you saw an XC Fairmont Station Wagon advertised for sale? And especially one as well optioned from the factory as this one!
According to motoring journo Peter Wherrett from the well received Torque program that aired on the ABC in the 70s, the XC was the best sorted Falcon he had ever driven. He loved the interior design, the supportive seats and the dash layout. He said the brakes were particularly good and the performance although not quite in the category of a GT was certainly not far off.
For sale is a true survivor example of the XC Fairmont GS Station Wagon. In factory Pine 'N Lime with Chamois trim, this rare GS is presented in unrestored condition and is the perfect candidate for a full restoration. The XC shows mostly original paint with rust in the usual spots and paint crazing throughout body. The chassis itself seems to be accident free and solid. The radiator support production line tag is still attached to the chassis rail and confirms the GS Rally Pack option. The original Chamois interior was trimmed by the dealership with the addition of cloth inserts at the time of purchase. The seat trims, carpets, hood lining and door cards are all in good original condition as is the dash, gauges and steering wheel.
Mechanically, the XC GS runs the numbers matching 351 Cleveland V8, 3 speed T-Bar C4 auto and 9" LSD rear end. The GS has been in storage for the last 15 years and so will need mechanical recommissioning. The car still drives, runs and stops but it is not ready to drive across Australia. The engine features the factory 4bbl Holley carby, original air cleaner and the factory exhaust manifold. The GS is fitted with the optional Air Conditioning which is all there but will need re-gassing, power windows, power steering, electric 2 way tail gate and electric sunroof fitted by Trad Sunroofs and Interiors who were working at the time with Peter Warren Ford to build the dealership's famous Horn Cars.
Originally sold through Peter Warren Ford, the car is currently in the ownership of the third owner. It has covered a genuine 291,772 klms from new and comes with original keys and an old registration certificate.
The car runs the original 14" 12 slots with caps and dress rims with older tyres, a spare and factory tools.
This is an unique opportunity to acquire a rare fully optioned XC GS Fairmont Station Wagon. A super rare car with huge future potential if fully restored.
