Now for sale is a rare unrestored 1978 XC Falcon Cobra 5.8 Litre V8 automatic Build No. 170 of 400 made. For sale from our Sydney Showroom.

Edsel Ford II, Henry Ford's great grandson and Ford Australia’s Assistant Managing Director at the time believed Ford’s one-two finish by Allan Moffat, Jacky Ickx, Colin Bond and Alan Hamilton at the 1977 Bathurst 1,000 was a cause for celebration. He decided to create a limited edition Falcon using 400 spare Hardtop shells themed on the famous Shelby Mustang. The result was the iconic XC Falcon Cobra.

For the first time in Australia, each of the 400 Cobras featured individually numbered plaques located on the dash and all were sequentially numbered from 1—400. The first 200 Cobras made were fitted with the 5.8L 351 Cleveland V8, with build numbers 2 through 31 extra special Cobras homologated for Group C racing and the Bathurst Great Race. The second 200 received the 4.9L 302 Cleveland V8. There were two exceptions to this engine formula with build number 001 fitted with a 4.9L 302 Cleveland V8 and build number 351 fitted with a 5.8L 351 Cleveland V8.

FOR SALE is Cobra Build No. 170. One of 370 Cobras known as Option 96 spec, it was built as one of the regular road-going versions, and is one of only 120 XC Cobras built with the 351 Cleveland V8 and T bar FMX automatic gearbox combo. Cobra 170 features the full suite of options including power steering, power windows, working factory integrated air conditioning, dual exhausts, 4 wheel disc brakes, LSD 9" rear end and Option 96 Cobra dress up pack which included front and rear spoilers, painted bumpers and interior and exterior Cobra badging.

This is a matching numbers 5.8 litre Cobra and features mostly original factory paint. The Cobra is currently showing 101,239 kilometres and still features the well preserved original Cobra cloth trim. The engine has never been rebuilt just maintained and the Cobra is running a Holley 600 CFM vac secondary with the original Thermoquad 4 BBL carby coming with the car. The owner has maintained the Cobra without regard to cost with the Air conditioning recently regassed and the FMX and diff recently rebuilt.

Cobra 170 was originally ordered and delivered through Holmesford, South Yarra, Victoria and still wears the original dealer sticker on the back window.

The XC is riding on the correct day one date stamped 1978 Bathurst Globes with BF Goodrich Radial T/A 225/60x15 tyres. There is also a spare with factory tools in the boot.

The Cobra is supplied with a Ford Verification letter, radiator support production line build tag and two sets of keys.

There are not too many cars that stand out in the crowd like an XC Cobra. These cars have achieved legend status helped along by the famous 1-2 Moffat/Bond finish at Bathurst. Now is your chance to get behind the wheel of this extra special XC Cobra.

Come and take a closer look at Cobra #170 in our Sydney Showroom. (Ref. 6596)
