1977 Ford P6 LTD …
For sale is a P6 LTD running the matching numbers 351 Cleveland stroked to 390ci with plenty of billet under the hood and a shaker sticking straight through it. For sale from our Sydney Showroom.
The locally designed and built Ford LTD (meaning Lincoln Type Design) was released in August 1973 to allow Ford to tighten its grip on the local long wheelbase luxury car segment. The Fairlane was still outselling Holden’s Statesman and Chrysler’s Chrysler by Chrysler and the LTD only added more pressure to Ford’s rivals.
Loved by Politicians, CEOs and Wedding Hire Companies, the big Ford boasted a massive 121 inch wheelbase, squared-off rear mudguards, 4 head lamp front design with the signature Rolls Royce style grill and a padded vinyl roof to cover the welding seams on the extended roof. There was also a limo-styled smaller rear window, whitewall radial tyres, power steering, air conditioning, power windows, and an AM/FM stereo/cassette player — not to mention cut-pile carpeting and walnut grained dashboard inlay.
Power came from a 351 cubic inch V8, with an automatic transmission and four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes — an Australian first.
But STOP RIGHT THERE!!! if you are looking for a stock standard P6 LTD. 'Cause this P6 has had some mumbo added.
Try 390 cubes of tyre frying power from the matching numbers Cleveland 351. The engine has been fully balanced with upgraded Crow roller cam, Manley push rods, roller lifters, Edelbrock intake manifold and alloy cylinder heads, 650 Holley carby breathing though the metal shaker, MSD ignition and twin thermo fans. Along the extra cubes there's also plenty of bling. The car sports new Desert Haze paint with plenty of polished billet under the bonnet including steering pump, alternator and polished Air Conditioning compressor. There's also a new radiator, a set of Pacemaker extractors through to the 2 1/2" exhaust, a rebuilt FMX auto with 2800 torque convertor and a rebuilt 9" diff with new axles, diff centre and 3.55:1 gears.
On the inside, the LTD is all class with the original Doeskin leather trim in excellent condition for its age, all working gauges, ice cold Air conditioning, power steering, power windows, working factory stereo and cassette player plus genuine XY GT Falcon steering wheel and under dash gauges for Water, Oil and Voltage plus a Sony stereo with Bluetooth. The LTD shows 134,533 km on the clock.
The big Ford is stopped with 4 wheel disc brakes and the LTD is riding on Centreline 15x8 fronts and 15x10 rears with excellent rubber.
This is a tough Luxo Ford for the big Australian proudly still churning the bitumen. A real head turner with the niceties of a luxury car but with the power and sound of a true blue Aussie muscle car.
