One of only 263 L34 Toranas ever built, this Salamanca Red LH Torana SL/R 5000 L34 is offered for sale from our Sydney Showroom for your inspection.

Developed by Holden, HDT and Harry Firth and raced by Brock, Bond, Sampson, Morris, Richards, Janson, Forbes and Bartlett, the L34 was a ready-made production race car powered by Holden's trusty 308 V8. Reworked by Repco Engine Developments, using much of the thinking from the then current Formula 5000 open-wheelers, it featured a strengthened block, a specific non-production crankshaft, upgraded rods and pistons, along with a special cam, roller rockers, unique heads and a host of other features.

The L34 ran a twin point and twin coil ignition, a high pressure fuel pump plus tubular steel extractors and a heavy duty radiator for improved cooling. There was also a High Output option designed specifically for would be racers which upgraded the L34 with additional go fast goodies, including upgraded camshaft and rockers, plus a Holley 780 carburettor. Holden claimed a modest 240 horses for the L34, though a well sorted L34 was realistically more like 350 Hp.

The L34 utilised the M21 heavy duty gearbox and stronger back axle, uprated 11" disc brakes up front and 10" drums at the rear and bigger 14" steel Rally wheels. The bolt on flares were there to cover up the wider rubber and inside the centre console and boot mat were deleted to save weight.

The L34 you’re looking at here was completed by GMH in August, 1974 and was originally ordered through Kerry's Motors P/L in Springwood, NSW and delivered to the first owner in May 1975. The original block is gone but the L34 runs a L34 High Output Race Spec motor build by Dave McLean Engines who were responsible for the Craven Mild Allan Grice L34 engines. Dynoed at 380HP, the motor is stamped with the correct HZ prefixed engine number and features a genuine L34 Holley 780 CFM carby, ex Grice Bathurst '78 L34-A9X manifold, L34 heads, flat top pistons, L34 conrods, A9X crankshaft, lightened and balanced flywheel, Crane rockers, Bosch twin point distributor with twin coils, L34 headers through to a ceramic coated exhaust and a high volume L34 fuel pump. The L34 runs the factory rare 3.08:1 diff ratio.

The L34 has been repainted in the factory Salamanca Red paint and presents in good condition. Chrome, stainless and glass is also in good condition. The interior is factory original including door trims and armrests. The dash, gauges and steering wheel are all original with new carpets and hood lining fitted. The L34 is showing 82,400 Klms on the clock. The Torana also comes with the original owners manual, a receipt folder, two sets of keys, an ICAARS condition/authenticity report and a verification letter from GMH.

The L34 is riding on genuine L34 Rally rims with 225/60R14 tyres all round. In the boot is a genuine L34 Rally rim.

A three owner L34, this is certainly a rare and highly desirable Torana that you will be very proud to own and is ready to be driven and enjoyed. A rare important part of Australian motor racing history and a must have for the Torana collector.
