Now for sale a '78 HZ Holden Statesman DeVille. Located in Charters Towers, Queensland for your inspection.

Rivalling Ford's Fairlane for a share of the domestic luxury car market, the Holden Statesman proved to be a great success for GMH. Having a Statesman parked in the driveway was a real status symbol back in the 1970s. And let's not to forget that the extended wheelbase afforded plenty of extra legroom for rear seat passengers.

The HZ-model was introduced with a minor cosmetic facelift and various improvements including a reshaped (round) steering wheel and multi-function stalk for cabin controls along with a significant engineering upgrade. Along with the rest of the GM-H range, the HZ-model Statesman saw the adoption of its famous Radial Tuned Suspension, giving it significantly better handling without sacrificing ride quality. Four-wheel disc brakes were now also fitted to all Statesman models. With three Statesman models in the HZ range - DeVille, SL/E and Caprice there was plenty to like when it came to this big Aussie luxury cruiser.

For sale is a maintained 1978 Holden HZ Statesman DeVille purchased by the current owner in 1981 from Shepperton Holden. The Statesman was originally painted in Antelope Metallic with a Burgundy Vinyl roof. The current owner has repainted the car in Burgundy with a Cognac painted roof. The original vinyl roof has been removed. The Statesman still features the original Tan cloth trim.

Running a period correct 308 V8 engine mated to the bullet proof Turbo 400 automatic gearbox, this Statesman comes with its original log books documenting the original owner as O.P.S.M P/L of Melbourne. Initial servicing is indicated at the selling dealership and there is a receipt for the fitment of the reconditioned 308 V8 motor. The current owner has serviced the Statesman religiously every 6 months.

The DeVille is in good condition for its age with no rust or damage and the paint presents extremely well for its age. The interior is also mostly original with some wear to the driver's seat but otherwise the interior trim is in very good condition. The car is fitted with new carpet. The steering wheel and dash are in very good condition and all gauges work as they should. The owner has fitted a GTS dash and the original Statesman dash is included with the sale. The power steering and power windows work perfectly and while the air conditioning works it probably requires regassing. The back seat looks like it has never been used. All seat belts are in good condition as well with a new driver's side belt recently fitted from Rare Spares.

The DeVille has been recently fully serviced and the brakes and suspension are in current roadworthy condition. The car comes with full QLD registration until April, 2026 and some spare parts

This two owner DeVille is a rare and appreciating asset that can be cruised in style for decades to come. Many Australians have fond memories of the HQ-HZ Statesmans and these classic 1970s luxury sedans have a strong following today and represent the pinnacle of Australian luxury motoring for the day.
