1973 Holden HQ GTS Monaro 350 Coupe
When it comes to rare Holdens, there is nothing rarer than a HQ GTS Monaro Coupe running the mighty 350 V8. In stunning condition throughout we proudly present this Mustard example for sale from Adelaide, SA.
Only 405 HQ GTS Monaro Coupes were built with the Chevrolet 350 V8 engine, with just over a half fitted with the T-400 Automatic gearbox. GMH marketed the HQ as a "Great Way To Move" and nothing in the HQ range moved quite the way a 350 Coupe did. In addition to the low build numbers, the HQ was GMH's final 81837 model making this one rare Lion.
Proudly presented for sale is this stunning Mustard 350 GTS Monaro Coupe with factory Black vinyl trim. A full matching numbers car, this HQ Monaro GTS is running the factory installed 350 Chevrolet V8 featuring the famous McKinnon block and bullet proof 3 speed T-400 automatic gearbox all packaged in what many believe to be the finest looking motor car ever made in Australia.
Highly optioned from the factory with optional Air conditioning and Power Steering, this Monaro GTS was built on the 7th of December, 1973 and sold in July, 1974 through Ron Hodgson Motors, Cabramatta, NSW. In the care of the current owner for more than 14 years, the HQ GTS has had a full restoration including an exterior re-paint in 2 pack circa 20 years ago and a retrim in the factory correct Black Vinyl trim. The interior features original hood lining, door trims and carpets.
Under the bonnet, the Monaro has been restored to full factory specifications with correct big nut master cylinder, radiator shroud, Air Cleaner assembly, working factory integrated Air Conditioning and Power Steering. Attention to detail includes the fitment of all factory stickers in the engine bay, sourcing of many NOS items bringing the engine bay presentation to near concours level.
This special Monaro will soon celebrate her 50th anniversary in December, 2023. One of only a very few genuine surviving HQ GTS 350 Monaro Coupes in existence. All body numbers and ID plates match and all compliance plates retain their factory rivets. The GTS has been lovingly appreciated and perfected by the current enthusiast owner and is in a excellent condition now ready for the next “custodian” to enjoy and appreciate.
Mechanically, many thousands of dollars have been spent to maintain this car to a very high level with the current enthusiast owner spending countless hours and many dollars tracking down and refurbishing the best original parts to ensure this Monaro is as close to how it left the factory as possible. The HQ is currently running a Pontiac carburettor and the car comes with the correct concours rebuilt 4BBL Rochester carburettor for a factory A/C car.
With so few HQ GTS 350 Monaros ever built and very few surviving, it is no wonder that the HQ GTS 350 has been long recognised as one of the most collectible and desirable Holdens ever produced. When was the last time you saw an all-matching numbers Holden HQ GTS 350 Monaro for sale? And more importantly, when will you see another one come to the market?
Don't miss this absolutely unique opportunity to own one of Holden's true Hero cars. This HQ GTS 350 comes with a Holden Historical Services Production Report to confirm the build details and the authenticity of the VIN, Chassis and engine numbers as well as the options fitted. This is an outstanding collectable car, not to be missed.
