1971 XY GT Falcon Tribute
This is as good as it gets. Hard to tell if it is a real GT or not. Just superb attention to detail has gone into the build of this special Falcon GT Tribute. In stunning Vermillion fire, the car was built from a donor body that had no rust in any substructure.
Over the five year build, experienced trades people were hand selected for their dedication to perfection and detail. The panel beater aligned all panels for correct fitment and then the car was taken to the paint shop. Nothing was overlooked. The seat frames, springs and seat runners were powder coated before new upholstery was fitted. Many other items were treated to the same procedure for durability instead of paint. Door locks, strikers, nuts and bolts were replated as original. Even the rear brake springs were colour coded, showing the level of detail.
The car was then allowed to sit for three months once the high fill and undercoat had been applied. This allowed the product to dry and settle before the colour was applied. The car was then cut back and polished to a high shine. There is no clear coat anywhere on the vehicle.
The engine is the trusted 351 cubic inch Cleveland. It has been fully prepped with cam and worked 2V cylinder heads. Power is applied through the four speed manual top loader gear box. The larger GT tail shaft and universals transfer the power to the ever reliable 3.25 ratio 9" Diff. The diff sits on GT spec leaf spring rear suspension with double acting shock absorbers fitted front and rear. A larger than standard front sway bar completes the suspension.
Braking is handled by discs on the front and wide finned drum brakes on the rear. The sound from the dual exhaust is another part of the muscle car experience. Fitted with a 36 gallon fuel tank allows many miles between refills of your favourite 98 octane.
Finding, refurbishing, and fitting of the hard to find bits and pieces takes a lot of time but is necessary to truly complete a first class restoration. The audio system was updated to a new unit that fits behind a false radio bezel on the dash.
Air-conditioning was added for passenger comfort with the outer bezels located in the front kick plates.
The current owner has enjoyed the pleasure of this muscle car over the last four years since the resto was completed. He has travelled approximately 10,000 klms without any problems. All maintenance and servicing has been professionally carried out. The car is currently fully registered and located in Townsville, Nth Qld. (Ref. 5191)
