When the purchaser of this magnificent Royal Maroon/ White Knitted Vinyl Shelby Mustang visited his local Ford Dealer, Bob Rice, Ford in Boise, Idaho he ticked a very important option on the Ford Dealer's order form. He selected the 428 power plant for his Mustang and with that came the unique Shelby fiberglass front end, the five NACA air ducts adorning the composite hood, Thunderbird style rear tail lights, GT500 side stripes and that awesome centre exhaust.

One of only 1,534 1969 Ford Shelby Mustang GT 500s built, this Shelby, according to the Marti report, is one of only 87 with the exact paint and trim combo and was delivered with the 428 Cobra Jet Ram Air 4V engine, C6 automatic transmission and 3.00:1 LSD 9" Diff. The Shelby was optioned with Visibility Group, Goodyear tyres, Sports deck rear seat, power disc brakes, power steering, Air conditioning, AM radio, tinted glass, deluxe belts and warning light and tachometer and odometer.

This matching number Shelby GT500 is a genuine 49,415 mile example. Photographed prior to the restoration, with these photos included in the folder that accompanies the car, the Shelby features the original day one interior, dash, steering wheel and gauges. Concours rotisserie restored in the early 2000s, the Shelby retains all its original date code components, the original matching-numbers 428 4V Cobra Jet Ram Air engine, air cleaner, manifold, distributor, original heads, radiator etc.

The car is listed on the Shelby registry with a clean bill of health and still wears the original Shelby Registry sticker on the front windscreen.

Everything works on this Shelby including the A/C, clock, all lights and even the original AM radio. Riding on the original 15" Shelby rims with genuine centre caps and BF Goodrich tyres. And the underside is fully detailed with all factory chalk and paint markings.

This was essentially the last Shelby GT 500 of the "classic" era. It rounded out an ultra-high-performance Mustang product line that included the Boss 429 making 1969 a year that will probably never be matched for sheer brute force.

Despite all the great Mustang variations over the years, the Shelby GT500 has always been a delight to own and the pinnacle when it comes to investment grade US muscle cars.

The Shelby was imported to Australia in 2014 and the car has been in the current custodianship since 2017. The car comes with a huge documentation folder, restoration photos, import paperwork and Deluxe Marti Report.
