A personal import in 2015, this stunning Candy Apple Red Boss 429 (Kar Kraft NASCAR No.1869) is one of just 1358 Boss 429s made across the '69 and '70 build years, and one of just 859 produced in 1969.

Although the Boss 429 was devised almost solely on the premise of certifying its massive new engine for competition use rather than being another high performance Mustang road car, these uniquely built homologation specials have become legendary in muscle car circles around the world.

To begin with all Boss 429 cars were shipped by Ford to Kar Kraft in Brighton, Michigan, where they were further prepared and completed prior to distribution. In reality, the bulk of the iconic Mustang’s performance modifications were completed in-house by Kar Kraft. Because Ford would not ship the 429 without an engine, all Boss 429s arrived at Kar Kraft’s facility with 428 Super Cobra Jet powerplants and drivetrains installed.

Upon arrival in Michigan, these cars were stripped of their Cobra Jet engines. Following a redesign by Kar Kraft the shock towers were removed and reinstalled, moving them one inch forward from their stock position. The specialty Mustang’s A-arms were also lowered by a distance of one inch, all this to create more room to house the wider power plant. All 429s were then fitted with heavier duty shocks, thicker front sway bar, and rear sway bar for the first time on a Mustang, and carried over the staggered rear shocks and high-performance power front disc brakes of the SCJ spec.

The Boss 429 cubic-inch V8 was a masterpiece to behold. The newly cast big-block featured a forged steel crankshaft, 4-bolt mains, and unique staggered valve aluminium heads with semi-hemispherical combustion chambers. Also included by the engineers were unique forged rods and pistons. The massive semi-hemi heads were topped with an aluminium high-riser intake and a 735-cfm Holley four-barrel carburettor with functional 'through the bonnet' ram-air induction. For the road the exhaust breathed through a set of free-flowing header-style cast exhaust manifolds.

The Boss 429 carried an output rating of 375 hp, and 450 lb-ft of torque. Although its track focus was thinly veiled with a mild road cam and smothering tail exhaust, its understood that the 429’s true output was considerable higher, and when fitted with a higher performance camshaft and free flowing exhaust was well in excess of 500 hp. Power was directed through a close ratio Ford Top Loader four-speed transmission and steered with factory power steering. Also featured was a traction-lock nodular 9 inch differential with a rear gear ratio of 3.9:1.

KK1869 was a well known low mileage car in the USA B9 scene, when the then US owner commenced a bare metal restoration in 1999 and completed to concours spec in November 2005. Shortly after the vehicle went to Toronto Canada where it remained until being sold and imported by the first Australian owner in 2015, and then on-sold to the current collector owner in 2020.

Considerable documentation supports the car including a copy of the original selling Dealer receipt and delivery docket, a Deluxe Marti report, and various receipts and information attesting to the car's authenticity. Also the original and rare smog equipment comes with the car, and it is fitted with an even rarer set of factory magnesium valve covers. The car has also been fitted with 3.5 gears for easier cruising. The 15 x 7 inch Magnum 500 wheels are also original.

Having just arrived in our showroom the car presents in excellent condition, being a reliable and impressive driver-quality car.
