1965 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 Tribute - Candy Apple Red …
In 1965, the Shelby GT350 was Carroll Shelby's original version of his Shelby modified Mustangs. Shelby converted the Mustang fastback into a road-going version of a NASCAR stocker. Mods were made to the motor, braking and suspension so that the Shelby Mustangs could handle sustained speeds of 130 MPH or more.
For sale is a modern take on the Shelby GT350. Starting life as a Rangoon Red 2+2 Fastback with Black trim, this Mustang was imported to Australia in 2010. The Mustang has been mechanically restomoded with the fitting of a 351 Windsor. The engine was rebuilt in 2022 and develops a dynoed 358rwhp. Internals include Ported World Products Senior Cast Iron Heads, Comp Cam Solid Lifter (11.5:1 Compression), Crane Roller Rockers, Probe Top Forged Pistons, SRP Eagle Rods, MSD (6AL), 750 double pumper Holley carby, a 7.5 L Milodon Sump, alloy radiator with thermo fans. The Shelby is fitted with JBA extractors and a 2.5" Magnaflow exhaust system.
Gears are swapped via a T5 GForce gearbox rebuilt in 2018 with the Mal Wood A5 Gear Set rated at over 600hp and then through to a shortened 9" Diff with Tru Trac 3.7:1 Diff gears rebuilt in 2022.
The Shelby GT350 remains true to Shelby's concept using a light weight fibre glass bonnet & side scoops and while the car was painted in Candy Apple Red in the States in 2007, it remains in well maintained condition to this day. Like the original Cobra, the engine bay features a tubular strut brace bolted across the engine bay to reduce body flex. And like the original, this restomod Shelby features an air-scoop right in the middle of the bonnet and NASCAR pins to secure the bonnet for racing.
The interior is also a modern take on the original Shelby. There is a digital gauges neatly fitted to the original dash, an original Shelby Rev Tacho perched at the centre of the crash pad, a wood-rimmed Cobra steering wheel now wrapped in leather, a 5 speed Hurst shifter, pencil shift light, a diff hump mounted fire extinguisher and super comfortable original front seats that where retimed in 2023 with period lap racing seat belts and Dyno matted floors. And of course there is the obligatory signature of the one and only Mr. Carroll Shelby on the glove box. And it is genuine!
The Shelby is fitted with power steering, Baer disc brakes 13" SS4 fronts and 11" rears and the Shelby is riding on American Racing Wheels 17x7 front and 17x9 on the rear with Federal 215/45ZR17 on the front and 255/40ZR17 on the rear.
This retromodded Mustang Fastback takes the original Shelby concept for the Mustang to a new level. Instead of the original Shelby's 306HP you've got close to 500HP under your right foot. Plus the original 4 speed gearbox has been swapped for a 5 speed with Hurst shifter and braking and suspension have all been vastly improved over the original.
Supplied with a huge folder of receipts for works completed including the 2022 engine rebuild receipt, import paperwork, 2 sets of original keys, dyno sheet and GT350 owners manual and more.
