1978 Ford XC Fairmont Hardtop Survivor - Satin Brown Metallic ... (SOLD)

Rare to find XC Fairmont Hardtop 4.1 Litre 6 cylinder in Satin Brown Metallic. Full matching numbers car and 100% complete. One family owned for the last 43 years. For sale from Adelaide, South Australia.

Purchased from the original owner in 1981, this SURVIVOR XC Fairmont Hardtop is one of only 648 XC Fairmont Hardtops built and one of only 104 4.1L/250 6s. A February 1978 build, this XC Fairmont is finished in the factory Satin Brown paint, is supplied with the original log books and is optioned with factory Air Conditioning, Power Steering, Beige Vinyl Roof and the 3 speed T-Bar automatic transmission.

In totally factory original condition with the only modifications the 14" Chrome 12 slotter rims, timber steering wheel, aftermarket Kenwood CD/Radio (installed under glovebox) and interior rear venetians.

Mechanically, the original matching numbers 4.1L Cross-flow engine, "N-Code" (high compression) still runs smoothly and has the distinctive big 6 purr. Power goes through a Borg Warner 35, 3 speed floor shift auto. The transmission was rebuilt approximately 10,000kms ago. Gear changes are smooth and positive. Mechanically sound and regularly serviced and maintained throughout it's life, the XC has always had Ford Motorcraft parts used wherever possible. Any issues have always been addressed as soon as identified. The current owner has gone over the whole car, top to bottom, inside and out, getting it ready for sale. He has replaced the plugs, belts and added fresh fluids & filters. The electricals have been checked, cleaned, re-wired where necessary and the engine bay and underbody have been cleaned, while new underlay and carpet were installed. A full list of parts recently replaced & all work performed (with photos) can be provided.

Body wise the Fairmont still wears the factory Satin Brown paint and Vinyl Roof. There is a small spot of rust at the rear window and there have been a few repairs over the years including the outer skin of the passenger door. There are minor paint imperfections as you'd expect of a 46 tear old paint job but the vinyl roof is unmarked and all external chrome trim & mouldings are there, as well as the bumper overriders, decals and badges. The XC has been garaged for the past 9 years, so would probably need some new suspension and brake components, some body rubbers etc replaced to make it 100% reliable and roadworthy.

The Ochre Saddle Houndstooth interior trim apart from new carpet are all original and in excellent condition with the only fault being some damage to driver's seat bolster and some fading to the tops of the door trims. The factory GXL instrumentation, interior lights and controls all work perfectly. The XC is fitted with the factory Air Conditioning and still working AM Radio with factory speakers. The original Dealer fitted cassette tape player which was previously installed in the small shelf located under the headlight switch in the dash is also included in the sale.

There is a folder full of receipts, for parts purchased and service records. The XC also comes with the original log books, the original owner's manual and build sheet and has covered a genuine 155,295 Klms from new. There are two original sets of keys for doors, ignition, glovebox and boot plus a lockable antenna key and original wheel lock nut key. Sold with the car will also be a variety of spare parts and bits and pieces, a XC Falcon Service & Repair manual, surplus fluids and touch-up paint.

The XC sits on chrome 12 Slot Rims, 14x6 on the front and 14x8 on the rear with 235/60 & 265/50 Bridgestone Eager tyres respectively. The XC also comes with 5 x original "GXL" sport rims & tyres (incl. factory/dealer supplied lock nuts), the original steering wheel and even mud flaps so the car can be returned to 100% complete and factory original specifications.

While it may not be as desirable as a factory 351 or XC Cobra, this Fairmont Hardtop is a very rare car, particularly as it remains a 6 cylinder and is in original factory condition. When was the last time you saw a 6 cylinder XC Hardtop for sale. Let alone a Fairmont, factory original & complete with low mileage and a documented history. This one’s a true survivor.

Currently unregistered, though has always been registered in SA, most recently in 2015 on SA Historic Rego. The original South Australian issued plates are still available for use if required.
