Wheels magazine's Car of the Year in 1971! A success on the road and on the race track. And one of the best looking cars ever built in Australia! The mighty Valiant Charger. Now for sale from Western Sydney.

No surprise that originally Chrysler planned to produce the Charger at the rate of 20 per day. This was lifted to 43 per day following the rave reviews from the dealer network and the press. And subsequently to 83 a day which still wasn't enough to meet the demand.

And it's not hard to understand why.

The Charger was an Australian design success story. By shortening the wheelbase by six inches and chopping 13.2 inches from the overall length of the VH sedan, Chrysler engineers had tightened the entire car. The shorter car meant a reduction in weight of 300 lbs with an obvious increase in performance. And with wide sports wheels, the clever use of bright metal, the blunt tail with its inbuilt spoiler and, roofline ribs running down past the rear window all conspired to make the Charger a sales success.

FOR SALE is a November 1971 built Charger XL in signature Hot Mustard. In the care of the current owner for over 35 years, the Charger XL runs a period correct 245 cui Hemi 6 cylinder engine and the factory column automatic. Repainted on the outside only approximately 14 years ago in acrylic paint, this Charger XL is in excellent condition for the age and features original paint in the engine bay, door jambs and boot.

The Charger was built as a 6 seater with Light Tan trim. The current owner has fitted sports bucket seats and retrimmed the interior with black seat coverings, black door cards, hood lining, crash pad and has also installed a Kilometre/hour speedometer. There is a working fan mounted to the underside of the dashboard and the Charger is showing 227,897 Kilometres on the odometer.

The Charger runs a fully maintained 1973 date cast 245 Hemi 6 cylinder motor, with genuine 2BBL Carter carby and extractors through to the single exhaust. The 3 speed Borg Warner automatic transmission was rebuilt 2 years ago.

The owner has fitted W35 mag wheels with new tyres and the original steel wheels with tyres are supplied with the car.

This well loved Charger comes with lots of great memories and is a super reliable genuine Aussie icon at an attractive asking price.
