Beautifully presented two owner Holden HK Kingswood Ute in Grecian White now for sale in our Sydney showroom.

This is a classic, rust-free utility with working history in country Ballarat VIC, originally sold through Coliseum Motors, Ballarat in February, 1969 being brought into life from the Melbourne factory. The previous owner discovered this Ute whilst searching for car parts in 2005 and quickly snapped it up as it was a one owner vehicle and had the less common bucket seat option trim. This workhorse was driven to Sydney and stored until a minor body restoration in 2018.

Holden’s new HK range saw several important milestones for Holden, including the arrival of the Kingswood badge. The distinctive HK’s all-new bodywork was larger in every dimension from the outgoing series, offering increased interior space and handling was markedly improved thanks to the longer wheelbase, lower centre of gravity and better suspension settings.

The model line-up was overhauled, with the entry level Belmont joined by the Kingswood and upmarket Premier with two new variants – the Monaro coupe and Brougham – added in July 1968. Holden’s commercial range continued as before, consisting of the utility and panel van, the latter only sold in Belmont trim level whereas the ute could be ordered in Kingswood guise, both with vinyl trim and bench seating which came as factory options on this beautiful Kingswood.

The HK commercials boasted a much longer, wider, and deeper load area and were marketed as being both bigger and stronger all round. The suspension was beefed up, the brakes were improved with dual circuits and 14-inch wheels also made for a work vehicle that was up for the toughest jobs. Holden’s option list for the HK was extensive– buyers could specify any one of three six-cylinder engines or the 5-litre V8, numerous transmissions, a limited-slip diff, heavy-duty radiator, battery, and air cleaner. With the number of survivors dwindling every year, the market for HK Holdens remains strong with original cars such as this one maintaining a loyal following.

Before its minor restoration a thorough inspection revealed pin-holing around the rear wheel wells due to gravel roads and some old repairs to be rectified. As part of the restoration panels & pressings used were 1 New Old Stock Left Hand door skin, spare tyre door skin, 2 lower rear quarter panels,1 lower Left Hand front guard, 2 outer sub-frame ends and 1 pedal footwell section. A new marine ply floor has been fitted as per original, helping to make this girl look fresh and ready to tow or carry.

Kingswood chrome and stainless trim was all retained and a repaint completed in the original Grecian white acrylic. Original style carpets and golf - ball headliner was fitted and (lift the dot) tarp renewed. Interior seat separator was re-chromed and coloured and replacement dash pad fitted. Drivers seat has been re-sprung and padded with the original cover retained for all other interior trim. Front and rear screen rubbers and quarter window rubbers have all been replaced.

The original owner upgraded the engine from 161 to Repco 186 CI to tow his small caravan, a popular way to extract more grunt from the workhorse. This refreshed engine only needing Head service, Rings, Bearings, Welch plugs, rear main and timing case seals clutch etc. electronic distributor and Genie exhaust fitted.

Wheels are period 70’s ROH steel 7x14. Brakes have been rebuilt using new hoses, wheel cylinders, linings, rear axle pinion seal and gasket, gearbox seals and gaskets. The HK front suspension still tight being the last of the steel bushed greaseable type, helping the HK to steer well with no issues. The HK has original issue VIC plates and NSW pink slip.

This tastefully restored classic comes with original distributor, original manifold and dash paint remaining in good original condition. Practical and clean repairs help keep this ute dry have been completed to maintain the quality of this classic ute.

This well maintained HK Kingswood Country Ute is located in our Sydney Showroom for your private inspection. (Ref: 6096)
