History:
One of Australia's most important touring cars, the original 'Greens-Tuf' Ford Mustang GT raced by Dick Johnson in the mid-1980s.
When Australia moved to the International Group A Touring Car regulations in 1985, reigning Champion Johnson swapped his famous Group C Greens-Tuf Falcon for the Zakspeed-developed Ford Mustang GT formerly raced with success in Europe by German ace Klaus Ludwig.
Wearing Johnson's famous No. 17 and signature Greens-Tuf livery, the car proved very competitive from the outset and in its debut season finished a close runner-up to the factory-backed BMW 635 of Jim Richards in the 1985 Australian title.
Dick Johnson, who developed the Mustang to be one of the best handling Group A cars and ultimately more powerful than in its original European spec, has fond memories of that first Mustang. "It ended up being a great car," he said. "With a little bit of luck we could have won back-to-back titles in 1985."
At Bathurst that year Allan Moffat test-drove the car in practice and was considering running it, but instead decided to continue his Sabbatical year from touring car racing.
In 1986 the Mustang was entered by Dick Johnson Racing in the major Australian and New Zealand endurance races and in early 1987 it was sold to Kiwi racer Robbie Ker.
Following the Wellington 500 street race, the Mustang remained in New Zealand with enthusiast Bob Carlyle who stored the ex DJR car for many years just South of Auckland. In 2006 the car was purchased by well-known New South Wales muscle car racer, Ross Donnelley.
Donnelley, who had previously restored the ex-Ian 'Pete' Geoghegan 1967 Mustang GTA to a very high standard, applied his touch to the Greens-Tuf Mustang and says the car is now just as Johnson raced it in 1985.
It has a current Certificate of Description and CAMS Log Book, making it eligible and ready to race in Group C/Group A - currently one of the fastest-growing and most exciting categories in Australian Historic Racing.
Then car runs a Ford V8 - 5 litre, Getrag 5 speed gearbox, Harrop suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes by AP/Girling, Centrelock Momo 10 x 15" magnesium wheels, Ford Motorsport gauges, Group A Air Jacks, Dry break fuel cell, fully adjustable suspension.

Vehicles offered for sale through AMCS are the responsibility of the Owner / Seller. AMCS acts as the Seller's agent and relies fully on the information provided by the Seller of the vehicle in the advertising and sale of each vehicle. AMCS takes no responsibility for the accuracy or veracity of the information provided by the Seller.
When a Buyer wishes to speak to the owner or inspect a vehicle listed for sale on the AMCS web site, AMCS will request a copy of the potential buyers driver's license or a business card along with an email address and phone number. This is provided to the seller as confirmation of the legitimacy of the buyer and the seller is then asked to contact the potential buyer to discuss the car and set up an inspection if required.
The Buyer must make his own enquiries and inspections regarding the condition, authenticity and veracity of the vehicle and any statements made by the Seller, and satisfy themselves in all aspects prior to purchasing the car from the Seller. The Buyer understands there is no warranty or guarantee offered by either the Seller or AMCS.
If upon inspection the Buyer is not satisfied with the car for any reason and does not wish to proceed with the purchase the owner is advised and any personal details are deleted from AMCS records.
If the Buyer is satisfied with the car and a price is agreed to with the Seller a formal tax invoice is prepared by AMCS and sent to the Buyer for payment to the AMCS audited Trust Account. AMCS also receives a formal Bill of Sale from the owner stating the car is free of encumbrance and noting banking details for the transaction. Once AMCS receives the total payment cleared into its trust account a transfer is then made to the Seller.
AMCS receives a fee of 7.5% (incl. GST) of the sale price for assisting the Seller to sell the vehicle. There is no fee or Buyer's premium charged to the Buyer.
