These ex Police Absinth Yellow VK BT1 Commodores are now legendary and this one is extra special. Featuring the new for '85 4.9L 304ci update with 170kw in police trim, this car was ordered new from Dustings Holden in Melbourne, VIC on 24.3.86 for $11,060. The car was used as a 'Q' (unmarked) car before being enlisted in the Police Driver Training Dept, and then into the Dragway Program where punters like you and me could drag race their street car against the Police legally without the risk of copping a ticket! Fitted with full Police lights and sirens, Police markings and a High Output V8 this car was a sensation on the drag circuit in its day. Its best run was a 12.3 qtr mile at 181 km/h. For drag racing the Police modified the car, fitting a strengthened Trimatic behind the hand built HDT 304 V7X engine, in place of the original M21 4 speed. From there the car was sold to Bob Jane to help him promote his Calder Park Raceway drag racing facility and was held by Bob in his private collection until 2014. In 2014, the car was purchased by John Linton, the son of one of the Police officers who used to drag race the Commodore. The current owner purchased the car from John in 2018. This Commodore Survivor has been faithfully preserved and is presented as it was raced in the late 1980s. The car has covered only a genuine 63,222 klms from new. And unlike the articles that say that the engine was replaced, this car still retains the original engine with number VG560367 and also has the original build sheet found under the carpet to authenticate the build details and numbers. The car has featured in many publications including Street Machine, Performance Street Car, Survivor Magazine, Drag magazines plus has been on display in the Bathurst Museum, Holden Museum and at numerous car displays. This is the ultimate BT1 Police car and is legendary in Victoria. Really the icing on the cake for any car collector. Located in Melbourne, Northern suburbs. (Ref: 5399)
