Here is an unique opportunity to purchase a genuine one of 100 A9X Torana Hatchbacks built by Holden in 1977 and THE ONLY ONE in Opaline Blue. Concours rotisserie restored back to it's race pedigree and for sale from our Sydney Showroom. Asking for offers over $595,000. Rarely do A9X Torana Hatchbacks become available. With only 100 ever built and reportedly only 50 to 60 known to exist, finding a genuine A9X Hatchback for sale is not easy. Let alone an A9X Torana that has served as a genuine CAMS log booked race car. Proudly offered for sale is a ONE OF ONE built Opaline Blue A9X Hatchback. Originally ordered by Mr. Frederick Geissler the dealer principle of Geissler Motors in Goulburn, NSW, the car was prepared for privateer racing in the Group C Touring Car Championships of 1979 and ran 4 rounds in AMSCAR at Amaroo, 4 rounds in ATCC at Oran Park with its last race at the Surfers Paradise circuit. Now in his mid 70s Geissler and still racing, Geissler is perhaps best known for his 2nd place in the 1980 Hang Ten 400 in a Commodore. Geissler was a regular on the touring car grids racing a Commodore in the James Hardie Bathurst 1000 from 1980 to 1984. The history of this special A9X indicates that the car was lightly raced and then returned to road trim with the original 2,000 Kilometre HT engine, Muncie Super T-10 gearbox and 3.08 diff in place. The car was then sold to a gentleman who used the car as a street car unaware of the race pedigree of his Torana. It remained in his ownership until it was sold to the current owner in 2019 who then set about undertaking a full concours rotisserie restoration of the car back to it's 1979 race livery. In consultation with the mechanic who built the A9X race car for Geissler, Mr. Phil MacAuley (pictured in 1979 and again in 2019), the current owner extensively researched the history and specifications of the A9X ensuring that the car was returned to it's exact race specs. The car was taken back to bare metal, professionally repainted in 2 Pack Opaline Blue and the exact race decals were reproduced as stickers and attached to the car. The underside of the car is as clean as the exterior. Mechanically the matching numbers L31 308 V8 engine was fully reconditioned by In Tune Performance, a period correct cold air intake added, the 750 Holley carby reconditioned and the internals include HDT guide plates, screw in studs, big valve heads, L34 type extractors through to a side exit exhaust. The Super T10 with Hurst shifter was checked and found to be in perfect condition and the diff was rebuilt by Diff Technics with Tru Trac centre with 3.08:1 gear ratio. The suspension and brakes are brand new. There is a brand new 120L Brown Davis drop tank and the A9X is riding on 15x10" Hotwires with new tyres. The interior is all re trimmed in the original Chamois Golf Ball trim with a CAMS approved race seat, approved race harness and genuine A9X roll cage. The Chamois interior includes the original driver's seat, dash fascia and gauges plus console and arm rest. Two correct plastic covers for the rear of the front seats will also be supplied. The A9X is ready for scrutineering by CAMS to allow the car to be raced in Historics. Alternatively, this super rare One-off A9X Hatch would look amazing as the centre piece of a Torana or Holden collection. And then of course, you could take it back to road trim and enjoy this stunning Torana as a road going A9X. Located in our Sydney Showroom for inspection by appointment.
