Superb example of a totally original 1976 Pontiac Trans Am 455 cubic inch V8 and the 4 speed Muncie manual gearbox. Presented in original Cameo White paint and for sale from Merimbula, South Coast, NSW.

Unbelievable condition 455 Big Block Trans Am running the all numbers matching 455 Pontiac V8 and close ratio 4 speed Super T10 with Hurst Shifter. For 1976 the Trans Am equipped with the 455 was nominated by Cars Magazine as the “Top US Performance Car of the Year” and Road and Track magazine were impressed by the 455 V8 equipped Trans Am’s quick acceleration and handling, claiming the Trans Am’s handling was in the same league as the Ferrari Dino 308 GT.

1976 was the last year of the round headlights and the legendary 455 cube 4BBL Pontiac motor. And this stunning ultra low 30,549 mile example is a rare find with the options selected all backed up with original factory documentation. Imported by the previous enthusiast owner in 2005 from Michigan, USA the car was maintained regardless of cost. The Pontiac was professionally converted to RHD in 2016 and repainted on the exterior only with new Firebird decals fitted. The Trans Am was originally sold by H&H Pontiac, Inc in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania and was factory optioned with the 455 4BBL engine, mandatory close ratio 4 speed Super T10 gearbox with Hurst Shifter, and performance oriented 3.23 rear axle ratio. The original owner ticked the option boxes for the Honeycomb wheels, Rally Gauges, power windows and AM radio (now Bluetooth AM/FM). Power Steering of course was standard on all T/As and the interior is ALL original and still looks brand new to this day. All the factory decals are still intact throughout the car, including the door jamb VIN decal and of course that wonderful Firebird emblazoned on the bonnet.

The optional 15 inch Honey-comb wheels are wrapped in Hercules H/P 4000 radial tyres. The previous mechanic owner rebuilt the matching numbers engine in 2019 with a 30,000 rebore with new pistons, new H-Beam rods, crank ground 10/10, new seals, Edlebrock Performer heads and manifold and a 780 CFM Vac Sec Holley. The owner fitted a new radiator and fitted a set of US sourced headers. A new custom made 21/4" dual exhaust system was also fitted. The Super T10 was also rebuilt with new seals and gaskets and the Positrac rear end is in perfect working order. Recent service works include a new brake master cylinder, new high pressure power steering hose, new heater core for the heater and new Koni suspension shocks to firm the ride a little.

This Trans Am runs, stops, handles, shifts gears and smells like a true 30,549 mile car. With so much torque and quick steering, this 455 4 Speed Trans Am would have to be one of the most versatile and balanced US muscle cars ever produced. An amazing find and a real treasure for the US muscle car enthusiast.

Purchased by the current owner in 2021, the car is registered in the ACT and NSW and can be registered in all states of Australia. NSW registration until 2nd June 2025. For your inspection from Merimbula, South Coast, NSW. (Ref: 6545)
