1976 LX SS Torana Hatchback 5 litre 4 speed ... (SOLD)

Striking Absinth Yellow factory L31 5 litre V8 and M21 4 speed manual Torana SS Hatch. This Hatch is in excellent condition throughout with a very good rust and damage free body, excellent paint and original interior. Purported to be a GMH employee build car, the car was built on the A9X line in Plant 1 and went through the line 8 times until all minor quality defects were corrected.

Non-documented information from a conversation with a past owner and the original GMH mechanic owner Peter Spottiswood, revealed that the car was factory fitted with flares, bonnet scoop, Hotwire wheels and also the Houndstooth cloth inserts. In addition, Peter fitted a special engine to the car that came from the Fishermans Bend GMH plant which was balanced and blueprinted. This explains the interesting engine number associated with this SS Hatchback.

In addition, Peter revealed that he made sure that when fitting the flares that the wheel arches were not cut out. The body on this Torana is excellent with both door skins and the sill panels still showing their spot welds, and there have never been any repairs to the bottom of the rear guards or the wheel well. The doors close perfectly and there is no sign of any corrosion under the hatch hinges. Fitted with under dash Air conditioning with all working gauges and factory radio.

The Torana is showing a genuine 155,770 klms on the odometer and eagle eyed Torana enthusiasts will notice that the compliance plate is still fitted with its one painted rivet. The car features its original glass, sun visors, original hood lining, crash pad, perfect gauges, original pedals, foot rest and steering wheel. The SS retains its original gearbox, diff and transmission. Aftermarket gear includes air shocks that have been fitted to the rear, non standard washer bottle, radiator, tappet covers, air cleaner and aluminium drop tank.
