1975 John Goss Special XB Falcon Two Door Hardtop - Bathurst Prototype #01

This is the car that John Goss dreamed of building and racing at Bathurst in 1975. Using a car that he and Ford Sales and Marketing head honcho, Keith Horner were determined to put into production as a 351 version of the Goss road car. It nearly happened then. A car that through much hard work and determination has now become a reality. Come see it ROAR!

Engine Build:

Objective - True to period build spec, but upgrade to modern higher spec components where critical for safety and durability. Operating rev range 7500rpm. Safe limit 8500rpm. Block +0.030 bore, re-machined, trued and squared. Scat 351 billet steel crank, Scat H-beam rods, Venolia Hypertech pistons 12.75:1 will run on Premium 98. Bore clearance 0.007 inch. (1975 bore clearance 0.010 inch but not required due to new tech piston material). All bolts ARP brand.

Heads Ford 2V closed chamber modern bench flow ported. Enlarged stainless steel valves. Roller rockers. Port matched Edelbrock dual plane aluminium intake (copy of the Ford 1971 Boss 351 intake). Waggot E2 grind solid lifter camshaft reproduced by Clive Cams. Matching Isky valve springs and solid lifters. Mallory electronic distributor and coil. JE double row timing chain and sprockets. BoLaws billet Holley 750DP with Pavtek mechanical fuel pump with custom pressure modulating valve located on inner guard. Twin return springs. All braided lines. Period Ryco stainless mesh air filter.

John Goss custom sump with personal design surge protection baffles and windage tray set up. Blueprinted oil pump and custom pick-up.

Drive Train & Suspension:

Close Ratio Top Loader, new Ford shifter. Mid mounted cooler with electric pump. 11 in. Exedy single plate heavy duty hydraulic clutch. Custom fabricated heavy duty thicker tailshaft and hd universals. Nine inch disc brake rear end 3.25:1. Detroit locker centre, Strange 31 spline billet axles. Electric pump and external rear mounted diff cooler.

Front - Koni adjustable shocks, custom front coils, lowered top control arm, 21mm front sway bar, fabricated tower bracing kit, custom steering stop blocks. Rear - custom narrowed 5 leaf springs, custom design Panhard rod and modified diff housing to suit, Ford track bars creating period correct 4 link' set-up with full rim/tyre clearance.

Brakes & Exhaust:

Willwood brakes master cylinder, booster, 4 piston callipers and cross drilled vented rotors. Head Mods (HM) short Try-Y design headers into period design handmade TIG welded Inconel aircraft steel dual side exit exhaust and mufflers sort of. (Ed: work of art).

Auxiliaries:

Ford power steering with quick ratio box. Steering pump custom modded with pressure regulator. External engine oil cooler and pump. Custom engine oil catch can and return. Three core radiator and single manual 300mm electric fan.

Recreated long range fuel tank with two halves and serviceable seam joint to access custom internal 60 litre alloy fuel cell. Holman & Moody roll over plate and ball valve design with surge tank. Custom twin fillers in each rear guard, RHS requiring special fabrication for genuine cap insert with matching Ford fuel caps fitted.

Body:

Specified numerous extra gussets, body stiffening, body to chassis bracing and heavily reinforced front cross member. Custom rear brake ventilation through functioning rear guard side vents to custom plenum ducted under back seat flowing to inside of rear brakes. Body painted in 6 coats of 2-pack solid Polar White and clear over base Apollo Blue.

Interior:

Original White trim changed to Saddle to reduce glare. 1970's spec Recaro seats covered in period cord/velour. Twim SAAS 4 point harness. Rear seat foam is only recreation. Tall handle gearbox shifter and metal pedals. Custom alloy roll cage with improved design with front down tubes routed through dash to tie off to A-pillars and down to sill box. Medium sized period steering wheel (still manageable if power steering failure). Custom gauge panel with all new special order from UK Smiths gauges: diff oil temp, gbox oil temp, engine oil temp, radiator temp, engine water temp, engine oil pressure, tacho. Standard glass, winders, door handles and locks and hood lining. 1kg floor mount fire extinguisher. Painted metal floor.

Wheels & Tyres:

Wheels Performance Challenger 4 x 15 x 10in, with Hoosier racing slicks 265/50/15 rear and 245/50/15 front. 12in rims and tyres possible in rear wheel wells.

Terms of sale

Vehicles offered for sale through AMCS are the responsibility of the Owner / Seller. AMCS acts as the Seller's agent and relies fully on the information provided by the Seller of the vehicle in the advertising and sale of each vehicle. AMCS takes no responsibility for the accuracy or veracity of the information provided by the Seller.

When a Buyer wishes to speak to the owner or inspect a vehicle listed for sale on the AMCS web site, AMCS will request a copy of the potential buyers driver's license or a business card along with an email address and phone number. This is provided to the seller as confirmation of the legitimacy of the buyer and the seller is then asked to contact the potential buyer to discuss the car and set up an inspection if required.

The Buyer must make his own enquiries and inspections regarding the condition, authenticity and veracity of the vehicle and any statements made by the Seller, and satisfy themselves in all aspects prior to purchasing the car from the Seller. The Buyer understands there is no warranty or guarantee offered by either the Seller or AMCS.

If upon inspection the Buyer is not satisfied with the car for any reason and does not wish to proceed with the purchase the owner is advised and any personal details are deleted from AMCS records.

If the Buyer is satisfied with the car and a price is agreed to with the Seller a formal tax invoice is prepared by AMCS and sent to the Buyer for payment to the AMCS audited Trust Account. AMCS also receives a formal Bill of Sale from the owner stating the car is free of encumbrance and noting banking details for the transaction. Once AMCS receives the total payment cleared into its trust account a transfer is then made to the Seller.

AMCS receives a fee of 7.5% (incl. GST) of the sale price for assisting the Seller to sell the vehicle. There is no fee or Buyer's premium charged to the Buyer.
