1974 XB GT Falcon for sale from our Sydney Showroom. The big story for Ford's XB GT was four wheel disc brakes and a headlight flasher. According to the January 1974 issue of Wheels magazine, the XB GT had the best brakes available on any car built in Australia and go close to being the equal of any braking system fitted on any road car from around the world. Period. The magazine went on to say that the GTs firm suspension and the right front/rear braking balance is absolutely superb. Time and again we would come up behind a slow moving truck on the Hume Highway and have to haul down from high speed to crawl in a few seconds and never once did we experience anything but fade-free, straight-line stopping with not an inch of rubber left on the road to indicate any wheel lock-up. While the brakes and headlight flashers grabbed the headlines, there were in fact, according to Ford engineers, 2,056 changes made to the XB to improve the quality and reliability of the cars. Of course many of these are minor and involve the changing of a washer or nut but some are important in the way the car behaves on the road and in its long-term performance. One more important change was the new friction disc collapsible steering column, which replaced the old convoluted tube column. This new system reduced the shocks which were passed up through the steering to the driver of the XA, particularly when it was fitted with radial ply tyres. Interestingly, it was car manufacturers involvement in motor racing including the Bathurst 500 that spear-headed the development of improvements like four-wheel disc braking systems. Now that you've got the background, it makes the XB GT Falcon a pretty desirable Grand Tourer and definitely an interesting Ford muscle car to consider for your collection. For sale is a very good quality example of the 1974 XB GT Falcon. Presented in factory Burnt Orange with Walnut Glow highlights, this XB GT features the matching numbers 351 2V Cleveland and desirable 4 speed Top Loader gearbox through to the factory 9" LSD. The car has been repainted and presents very well on an extremely clean rust and damage free body shell. The GT was sold by Warrego Motors in Charleville, in far western QLD. This probably accounts for the quality of the body on this XB GT Falcon. The car also comes with a collection of registration papers, ownership history and two sets of original keys. Mechanically, the car runs strongly and sounds amazing. Modifications include an aluminium Performer manifold, roller rockers, 750DP Holley carby and performance air cleaner. The car also has extractors fitted. All parts removed from the GT are supplied including the original manifold, air cleaner, rocker covers and other spare parts that have been replaced along the way. The interior is all original and in excellent condition with a minor parting of the stitching on the drivers base. The owner has sourced 1.2 metres of replacement trim and this is supplied with the car. According to the owner, Ford ran out of XB GT steering wheels in early 1974 and that's why the car is fitted with a genuine XY GT steering wheel. All gauges work and the car is indicating 77,324 miles. The Air conditioning is all there but need re-gassing. The car still retains the rear windscreen dealership sticker and factory applied Air Conditioning decal. The GT is riding on genuine 12 slots with GT skull caps and good B F Goodrich rubber. Currently on full Victorian registration - BRX700. Located in our Sydney Showroom for your inspection. (Ref: 5905) If you wish, we will gladly arrange an actual/video inspection tour of the car and of course there is no issue to arrange enclosed transport door to door anywhere in Australia or New Zealand.
