1973 HQ Holden Kingswood Wagon - Survivor ... (SOLD)

Awarded "Ultimate Survivor" at the Ballarat All Holden Day and featured in Issue 10 of Survivor Car Australia magazine, this unrestored low mileage 1973 HQ Kingswood Station Wagon in Balmoral Green is without doubt one of the most spectacular examples of the HQ Holden Station Wagon still on the road today. In May, 1973 Mr. William (Bill) Lee of Rostrevor, SA and his two brothers wandered into City State Motors on 43-69 Sturt St, Adelaide and were met by salesman Mr. Trevor Quick. All three brothers ordered the same spec HQ Station Wagons however, each chose a different colour. Bill's HQ Station Wagon was a special factory order in Balmoral Green with a Glacier White roof and Chestnut trim believed to be a one-off combo. He ordered his HQ with the 202 six cylinder engine, combined with the M20 4 speed manual gearbox, bucket seats, sports console, Air Chief radio, GTS instrument dash, mud flaps and Outback Pack which added heavy duty radiator, stiffer springs, fuel tank stone guard, rear dust deflector and sunvisor to the HQ.

Mr. Lee took possession of the HQ on December 13, 1973 and it remained in his care until he was unable to drive any longer. It was then passed down to his niece and ultimately sold to the current proud Holden collector owner in November, 2014. The HQ has recorded a genuine 76,854 Kilometres from new and comes with the original log books with full service records, Mr. Trevor Quick, the original salesman's business card, the last lube sticker on the front windscreen, the original South Australian number plates, the last registration sticker from 2012 and comes with original keys.

A spectacular survivor, this HQ Kingswood Wagon is presented in phenomenal maintained condition. The original Balmoral paint is in exceptional condition with nil rust or damage and the glass and chrome work is in incredible condition. Even the front windscreen is the original item. The only paintwork to the car was the repainting of the roof. The Chestnut interior is in unmarked condition throughout with all working gauges, working Air Chief radio, perfect condition crash pad, door cards, hood lining, steering wheel and flooring. The ash trays and cigarette lighter have never been used.

The engine bay features all original componentry, original stickers and markings with the original big nut brake master, glass fuel filter bowl, Bosch regulator, windshield washer reservoir, many original hoses and clamps and even some original factory parts stickers. Even the wire that secures the production line paper tag is still attached to the engine block. Mechanically, the HQ has been maintained within an inch of its life with great care taken to keep the car in top mechanical condition.

The boot area is in immaculate condition and features the original spare tyre on the original steel rim and factory tools. As per the Outback Package, all 5 original rims are painted in the original Balmoral Green as opposed to the standard Silver finish.

Riding on the original steel rims with mint Kingswood caps and dress rims on excellent near new white walled tyres.

This is a One-off example and according to editor of Survivor Car Australia Magazine, arguably the best surviving HQ Wagon in the country.

This HQ has been on display in the National Holden Museum, Echuca.
