1973 Ford Falcon XA GT - Polar White
The first all Australian designed Falcon and the first Falcon GT to include a 4 door sedan and hardtop version, the XA was a huge milestone event in the history of Ford in Australia. For sale is one of the best XA GT Falcons we have seen. A quality GT for sale from our Sydney Showroom.
For the first time, Australia was designing cars from scratch right here. The designers moved away from the brick like design of the XR through XY range to a more aerodynamic "Coke bottle" design, a new wrap around cockpit style dash and high backed bucket seats, NASA air scoops on the bonnet and vertical air vents between the front edge of the fender and the front wheel arch. Gone were the Super roo stripes and the shaker. Here was a more mature GT.
Mechanically, the XA GT retained the Cleveland 4V 351 cid V8, 4 speed Top Loader gearbox and traction lock 9" diff. With it's more aerodynamic body, the XA GT was in fact quicker than the XY GT predecessor and in the hands of Moffat/Geoghegan and Bartlett/Goss scored successive victories at Bathurst in 1973 and 1974.
For sale is an absolutely stunning XA GT delivered new from Hillis Ford, Wagga Wagga, NSW. Rarely do we see a GT which has been restored with this level of detail. A late 1973 build and a ONE-OF-ONE in this exact combination, the GT was treated to a concours restoration in 2008 by Maskells Customs and Classics of Shepperton, Vic. at a cost of in excess of $100,000. The body was stripped back to bare metal and given the full rotisserie treatment including the underbody, engine bay and boot with all chrome and stainless steel professionally plated and polished. All trim items, glass and rubbers were either refurbished or replaced while the wiper motor, starter motor, alternator and distributor were all replaced with New Old Stock items and a new wiring loom installed.
The matching numbers 351-cid V8 was rebuilt back to factory specifications using the original carburetor and exhaust manifolds. The gearbox and tail shaft were both reconditioned and a new clutch installed. The brake system was overhauled with all new lines and a new radiator fitted.
Attesting to the quality of the workmanship, the GT won first prize at Summer Nats in Canberra in January 2009, taking out "Best Muscle Car" and "Best Standard Body".
Still presented in concours show winning condition, this XA GT is a one of one build. According to the ACCHS Report, the GT is factory optioned with Protection Pack, Black Bonnet and Superfringe radio. But it is how this car presents in the flesh that really impresses. The attention to detail is second to none and whether you are buying a GT to drive and enjoy or as a show car, then this is a well sorted and presented example that will certainly satisfy the most fastidious buyer.
The GT is riding on the original 14" 12 slot rims with excellent BF Goodrich red walled tyres.
This is a must inspect for the XA GT enthusiast. Ready to club register and enjoy with pride.
