1972 Ford Falcon XA GT Sedan - Onyx Black

Now for sale is one of only 7 XA GT Falcons finished in Onyx Black and featuring the matching numbers 351 4V Cleveland motor and 4 speed Top Loader gearbox. Dealer optioned with Lime Glaze highlights, this is certainly a very rare and strikingly unique Falcon GT. Located for your inspection in our Sydney Showroom.

The XA was the first all Australian designed Falcon, and the first Falcon GT to include both a 4 door sedan and a hardtop version. It was a huge milestone event in the history of Ford in Australia, and following the Bathurst success of the GTHO's in '70 and '71, the XA also achieved victories at Mt Panorama in '73 and '74. They were very good years for Ford and their fans.

The XA design was more aerodynamic than the previous XY with flowing ''Coke bottle" body design, a new wrap around cockpit style dash and high backed bucket seats.

The GT's received NACA style air scoops on the bonnet, attractive black out highlights, driving lights mounted in the grill, and unique vertical vents in the front guards. But the lairy Super Roo stripes and XY bonnet shaker were now gone! The XA was a more sophisticated less extroverted GT.

Well not on this occasion! The original owner obviously didn't see eye to eye with Ford's designers as he certainly spec'd a GT that was as extroverted as you could get. Ordered through Virtues Car Sales in Tenterfield, country NSW, the original owner chose to highlight his Onyx Black XA GT with Lime Glaze accents creating a very unique and in your face GT Falcon.

An all numbers matching factory manual XA GT, the only option fitted by the factory was power windows. According to the ACCHS Report, this GT is one of 1,868 XA GT Falcons produced, one of 1,062 4 speed manuals, one of 7 in Onyx Black, one of one with the paint and trim combo and an unique one of one build with the options fitted.

The GT received a repaint in the early 2000s and a retrim to the interior. The GT features the all numbers matching original D block 351 4V Cleveland V8, 4 speed Top Loader manual gearbox and 3.25:1 9" diff. The engine rebuild included Scat H-Beam rods, a Lunati Cam, Solid Lifters and Triple Valve Springs, Yella Terra rockers, standard manifold, a Holley 750 cfm carby, standard distributor with Pertronix Ignitor II electronic upgrade and Pertronix Flame Thrower II coil. The GT is fitted with 4 into 1 headers and a delightful GT note is emitted from the standard dual exhausts.

Brakes and suspension have all been rebuilt and the correct original XA GT tramp rods and big finned rear drums are still in place.

The interior has been retrimmed with saddle cloth inserts added to the seats. The interior also was fitted with new door cards, carpets and hood lining. An AM Superfringe radio was also dealer fitted.

Open the boot and there is a new boot mat and a 12 slot spare wheel. The GT is riding on 15 x 7 Bathurst Globe rims with Dunlop SP Sport 215/65R15 redwall tyres.

This is a One of One, strong driving GT that really turns heads, sounds amazing and gets up and goes like a healthy GT should.

The GT is supplied with an ACCHS report verifying the build details as well as a copy of Tough Aussie Muscle magazine where the car appeared as the cover story.
