1970 Holden HT Monaro GTS 350 - Daytona Bronze … (SOLD)

Here is a rare opportunity to acquire an unrestored SURVIVOR 1970 HT GTS Monaro running the all matching numbers 350 V8 and 2 speed Powerglide in glorious day one Daytona Bronze Metallic paint with original black trim. For sale from our Sydney Showroom.

While the HK GTS Monaro 327 was essentially a raw-boned racer, with its four-speed close-ratio Saginaw gearbox and console mounted tachometer, the HT GTS 350 was developed as a serious grand tourer that could double as a Bathurst racer. With the HT, customers could order the flagship 350 as an automatic, complete with softer suspension settings and a lower tune of 275 bhp rather than 300 bhp of the manual 350. The HT was fitted with more elegant and readable round instruments with matching speedo and tacho and options like Power steering and Air-conditioning.

In a road test of the Powerglide GTS 350, published in the July 1970 edition of Wheels magazine, James-Laing Peach, noted that Holden's automatic Monaro GTS 350 was now a refined touring car with the two-speed automatic ‘only fractionally slower’ than the four-speed manual. Along with adequate power, the HT benefited from an extensive options list and a wide choice of 'hero' colours.

In Clint Walker's Golden Miles: Sex, Speed and the Australian Muscle Car, Clint writes that the "The Falcon GT/GTHO, which predated the Monaro, was the most muscular of all Australian cars, but it was a sedan, and that's why so much focus falls on the Monaro as the original Australian muscle car. And if another defining aspect of the muscle car was its youthful orientation, the Monaro also had that in a way the GT didn't. The Falcon GT never pretended to be anything but a limited-edition race special. The Monaro was both a race special and a young-generation dream machine."

Presented in day one unrestored condition with original paint and interior and all matching numbers, this Daytona Bronze beauty is indeed a rare find.

Totally correct and unmolested the GTS has its original 350 Chev engine, 2 Speed Powerglide and 10 bolt diff. Mechanically perfect, the Monaro has covered 58,690 miles since new. A three owner car, the Monaro was purchased from McGrath Liverpool, NSW and the original sales invoice is still with the car. The original owner traded the GTS back to the McGrath dealership for a Holden Statesman in 1980 and the car was then sold to the second owner who went on to become the Mayor of Camden, NSW. The car remained with his family until it was purchased by the current owner in 2021.

The Monaro comes with a huge documentation file including the original McGrath Holden dealer sales invoice, original owners log books and manuals with full service history records and two sets of original keys. Even the original McGrath Liverpool sticker is still on the rear window.

The Monaro is riding on 14" Performance Jelly Bean mags with BF Goodrich Silverstone red walls 205x70R14 all round with the original 6" steel rim on the original Dunlop spare with tools in the boot.

This Monaro is absolutely faultless throughout. One for the serious Monaro collector. And one of the best HT's we've ever seen.
