1969 Ford XW GS Fairmont 302 V8 - Sunroof

Be a Grand Sport! Super rare XW GS Fairmont 302 V8. Fully optioned for the day with the super sought after GOLDE Sunroof and GS Rallyee Pack options. For sale from Yarra Valley, Vic.

New for 1969 was Ford's super attractive GS Rallyee Pack. Option code 48 meant the original purchaser ticked the box for GT style full instrumentation, GS wood grained rim blow steering wheel, GS Rally Stripes down both sides and chromed wheel covers. A $145 option that certainly lifted the game on a bog standard Falcon, Futura or Fairmont.

Today, factory GS Fairmonts rank just below their XW GT cousins in desirability. And one optioned with the rare and super sought after GOLDE Sunroof option are rare indeed.

Originally sold in November, 1969 from Carl Robertson Ford in Southport, Queensland, the original owner had obviously decided to let the beautiful Queensland sun shine in on his Golde Sunroof optioned GS Fairmont. He also ticked the box for the top spec Fairmont and opted for the 302 V8 engine, the only V8 then available for a Falcon, Futura of Fairmont. In 1969, only the GT got the 351 Windsor power plant.

Purchased by the current owner in 2014, the XW GS was fully restored during 2017 and 2018. The car was repainted in Dupont Grecian Gold paint and the owner used Grand Tourer Restorations in Melbourne to recondition all the running gear and assemble the car. Being a country car, the body was very clean with some repairs required to the sills and at the rear bumper. All this work was completed in metal. All chrome and stainless is original and in excellent condition and all the glass is original except for the front windscreen which had to be removed to install the new hood lining.

On the inside, the Fairmont features the original factory black vinyl with some parting to the stitching on the driver's seat with the original trim on the passenger seat and rear seat in excellent original condition. The XW features a new console (as the original console was damaged due to the fitment of a Selectair A/C system), new carpets, seat belts, door cards and dash top and fascia with the original 6,000 RPM tacho, 140 MPH speedo, Fuel, Oil and Temp gauges and steering wheel being retained. The GS still features the original working Superfringe radio and the clock.

Mechanically the original matching numbers engine block on standard bore is included with the sale. The XW GS is now running a fully reconditioned 302 cui Ford roller engine complete with 650 Holley Carby, Ford racing rocker covers and Pacemaker extractors. The C4 automatic has been professionally replaced with a 4 speed Top Loader gearbox and the 83/4" Borg Warner diff has been reconditioned. The Fairmont has covered less than 2,000 miles since the restoration was completed. The XW runs Pedders Gas Sports Ryder shocks all round and an 18mm Heavy Duty Sway Bar. The braking system has been completely overhauled by Grand Tourer including reconditioned master, booster, new lines, discs, drums and new handbrake cable.

Open the boot and there is a new boot mat, spare wheel and factory tools. The GS is riding on Super Steel 215/65R14 tyres including the spare.

This stunning XW GS is noted on Ford records as a ONE of ONE build. The GS comes complete with the Ford letter of verification, an XY new car brochure, a huge receipt folder and a set of original keys.

Certainly a rare find nowadays. And who could resist slipping behind the GS steering wheel, winding back that superb Golde Sunroof, turning over the 302 V8 and blipping the throttle as that twin system comes to life.
