1967 XR GT Falcon
This is Solid Gold Ford Muscle! For sale is this genuine 1967 XR GT Falcon. Undoubtedly the original and to many the best GT Falcon. Certainly the car that started the Muscle Car story in Australia. A car that is entwined in Australian racing folk law and associated with many of Australia's greatest racers including Harry Firth, Ian and Pete Geoghegan, Bob Jane, Fred Gibson, Bo Seaton, Alan Hamilton and Bob Morris just to name a few.
Created originally to meet the demand for a V8 Police pursuit car, Bill Bourke, the then MD of Ford Australia saw the opportunity to attract a younger performance focused buyer and along with Ford design guru Jack Telnack combined the luxury of the Fairmont sedan with the Mustang bred 289 V8, GT badging, side stripes, chrome wheels and GT steering wheel and created a legend!
This is one of the 596 XR GT Falcons built. Restored to perfection, this beautiful GT Gold XR GT Falcon was restored by the previous owner using many NOS parts and has covered under 4,000 miles since the restoration. The GT is still running the original High Performance 225 Hp 289 cid Windsor V8, the wonderful 4 speed all synchromesh Hurst floor shift top loader gearbox and 8 3/4" 2.93: 1 ratio rear end. The original Motorcraft 4300 Autolite 4 Barrel carburettor is supplied with the car but the current owner has fitted a Holley carby which he finds more reliable.
The GT was stripped to a bare shell and was found to be in excellent condition and was then repainted in acrylic GT Gold. The Charcoal interior has been retimmed, the dash has been rechromed, the hood lining, carpets and door cards have all been replaced and the Stewart-Warner instruments have been recalibrated.
The car has appeared in Street Fords magazine which outlines the work that went into gathering the NOS parts and restoring this precious GT to perfection. Purchased by the current owner through a Shannons auction in Brisbane in 2008, the car has been sparingly driven and maintained to perfection. This is a must have Ford for the GT enthusiast and collector. A car that can be proudly shown, reliably driven and definitely a gold class investment in some wonderful pure bred Aussie muscle.
