Street Work Charity event

AMCS was proud to attend as a Corporate sponsor the Street Works 30th Anniversary dinner/fund raiser. This amazing group of people have dedicated their lives to helping kids who may be lost find themselves and renew their love for life. This is a great cause and we encourage you to support these truely ultruistic people to help our children.

StreetWork provides four main services to young people:

1. Outreach

Mall outreach - Our youth workers and volunteers frequently visit Malls to connect with and support young people in the area.

Juvenile advocacy - We provide 24/7 support at North Sydney, Chatswood and Dee Why police stations to young people when arrested on suspicion of criminal activity.

Crisis and welfare response - The team are on-call to respond to crisis situations. This could include situations where a young person urgently needs accommodation or is suicidal.

2. Skills building:

Air & Soul Workshops - These provide young people with the freedom and ability to develop aerosol and contemporary art-style skills on legally provided walls, lowering the incidence of illegal graffiti whilst developing skill and talent.

Anger management and fitness - Emotional scars are often the cause of anger in young people. We run a program of physical exercise while developing positive relationships, self-awareness and self-esteem.

Street Duke of Edinburgh - An innovative, street-based, application of the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, customised for young people living in difficult circumstances.

Street Stylz dance program - A Hip Hop dance program that is run at Warringah Mall during our outreach. Dance classes are often very expensive and Street Stylz gives young people an opportunity to learn a new skill and acts as a "creative release". The dance class provides a positive reason for being at the Mall and has the potential to improve the relationship between Centre Management, security and the young people.

Breaking the Cycle - We run a number of programs that reach the young "at risk", shaping their behaviour. The program runs throughout the year, addressing alcohol and drug use, anti-social behaviour and anger management.

3. Kickstart 1:1 mentoring

This is our most requested service. It's contract-based, goal-focused, intensive case management.

Our Youth Case Workers determine areas of change with the young person and support them through the process by the celebration and reinforcement of their successes.

Goals are individually tailored, according to the needs of the young person, and may include help with legal issues, counselling, education, employment, housing, alcohol and substance abuse as well as relational issues.

4. Parent / carer support

StreetWork provides support to the immediate families of our young clientele.

Parent/carer support includes a social group which conducts informal get togethers. There are also educative guest presenters and strategy development through consultation with our Youth Case Workers.
These services are available to young people on the North Shore and
Northern Beaches of Sydney.
