XY Falcon Restoration - Part 7

Powerhouse Ford has finished the XY Falcon 351 ground up restoration. Here is the finished product ready for delivery to the new owner.

According to Geoff House of Powerhouse Ford, " It's all together, going, registered, and on-road. The 15 x 8 Globes with the 265 tyres on the back proved to be just a tad too wide, and would present scraping problems with a full load of passengers - so all the Globes came off and were replaced with good old-school Hotwires - 8's on the back with 245's and 7's on the front with 235's. All good and no rubbing problems.

We have put around 300 miles on the car now - and no rattles, leaks, squeaks, or anything else to be concerned about. The 4V solid is returning around 14 miles-per-gallon at the moment, but should improve over time as it loosens up. With a 3.00:1 rear end for better highway driving, it should not be unreasonable to expect better fuel economy starting to show by the 1,000 mile mark.

In reality, fuel economy doesn't normally figure too much when doing a car like this - but it does help tell you how efficient the whole drivetrain is.

Suspension and ride height is left a little on the high side - the new owner of this car still has some unsealed roads to travel, so low ride and minimal clearance is not the go !!

So it's off to a new home for this one - and on to the next one for us -an E49 Charger this time !!

No, it's not a Ford, but the Chargers have their following - and the rarer ones like this E49 certainly seem to be gaining in value. There's still other Fords (including GT's) in the background - but they will just have to wait their turn."

Geoff House.
